Top 31 things to do and attractions in Figueres (2024)

Salvador Dali's famous art museum is housed in a red castle-like building with giant eggs and stylized Oscar-like statues. The museum exhibits pieces from Dali's early career to his later works, including installations and more discreet pieces. Visitors will likely be able to speak English, but it's polite to learn some Catalan as well.

Unique experience, the whole place is amazing. Apart from the paintings and the installations on display, visitors can also have a chance to see the artwork of some other artists. Also we had the chance to see the work that Dali did in relation with Dante's Divine Comedy. Definitely worths a visit no matter if Art is your cup of tea or not!

Famous museum with a lot of famous and impressive works of art and sculpture! Decent interpretation as well. I liked the Mae West room, and the room near the end with the melted clock and the feet on the ceiling. It can be busy, so book online in advance. The ticket price is also fair at E15, not ridiculous like some in Barcelona.

This is madness. This is out-worldly. “Where, if not in my own town, should the most extravagant and solid of my work endure, where if not here?“Definitely book online in advance and spare around three hours (remember the closing time at 17:45). I would go early in the morning as it gets super crowded. Also guided tour is highly recommended!

Amazing place, totally worth it. Salvador Dali’s art is awesome. Definitely have to see it in person. The Museum is pretty big and you need at least two hours to see everything. In addition to the main part, there is another exhibition (in another building) with Dali’s jewellery which must be seen as well. The museum is so pretty on the outside also. There is a shop inside to buy authentic souvenirs. Had a great time, you should visit it too, if in Barcelona!!!

Zdravko D — Google review

The museum that Dali himself designed for himself and his posterity. You need a guided tour to fully understand the nuances of the museum. While I didn't see any signature pieces, still saw a number of unique pieces to make it a worthwhile visit. The city of Figueres is Dali's hometown and having his museum there, he is giving back to his hometown with the tourist dollars forever. Definitely a proud native son.

We had a visit as a team event with a private viewing and I loved the Dali museum. His paintings and the many layers needed loads of time to absorb and many details. Sadly we only had 40 minutes but so interesting and quirky which I love.

Nkechi O — Google review

An awesome experience. So many pieces to view that challenge your mind in the most positive way. This was by far so different (in a good way) from traditional art museums that display different artists. Highly recommend for kids and adults. Takes a few hours to view everything in a way that allows you to fully take on each piece of art. Street parking can be a challenge, but there are many garages nearby. Also tons of shopping and food options within walking distance. Purchasing tickets online in advance is recommended and was easy to navigate.

Jonathan K — Google review

Pure magic! It deserves to spend the whole morning visiting and interpreting all the masterpieces of such a great artist! I strongly recommend to hire a guided tour or to use an audioguide to help yourself understand the meaning of all the items exposed as well as to discover the hidden images and secrets of the pictures.

Really 4.5. It is a unique and interesting museum, but it didn't sweep me off my feet. For one thing, it's not very large. And it doesn't contain some of Dali's best works. When there are a lot of people, it can feel crowded. Nonetheless, it's worth a visit if you are in Barcelona for at least 3 nights. Also, no need to go there with a tour company, as it's readily accessible by train out of Barcelona for a fairly inexpensive price, and a 15-20 mins walk from the train station. The town of Figueres is also cute, so it's worth strolling through it a bit.

Igor F — Google review

Probably the main attraction of Figueres. It is possible and recommended to purchase tickets online in advance. The museum is splendid, with the peculiarity that, by Dali's own will, there is no predetermined route, and everyone is free to visit it in their own way. More explanations regarding the exhibited content would have probably made the visit even more interesting, but it remains an overall splendid experience.

If you like Dali you will find this museum interesting. I took the guided tour in English and learned some interesting details that you do not get just from wandering around. You need to plan ahead to get a guided tour. I had to wait 2 days for the English tour. I have included some of my surrealist photography that was inspired by Dali.

Amazing experience! Went on a Saturday and we had pre booked fast track tickets. There was no wait time and the museum is very easy to find and get to from the train station. We spent more than 3 hours and felt we could easily do 3 more. Its a magical experience that allows you to be a part of Dali’s world. The museum is a work of art inside and outside and definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend

Cristiana G — Google review

I strongly recommend that you come. The Dali Museum will definitely bring you unforgettable memoriesThe light is very good when you go in the morning. You can prepare a few coins because some installation art requires coins to be seen

Honestly, this is one of the best museums that I visited in my life. Dalí was a truly genius and artist of this time. Even not a minute you can get bored there. Looking forward to visit this amazing museum again!!!

I’m a huge fan of Dali' and his work. This museum is his creation. It’s not just his art inside its entirety is art.Worth the travel to and from ten fold!I recommend buying tickets in advance so you can pick the timeframe that works best with your travels.

Joy H — Google review

Excellent museum that is way overcrowded. You definitely get a great sense of Dali and his world. Installation art, guest collections, his personal collection. And the jewels! Didn't miss those! On the down side, they let too many folks in at once and it definitely impacted our experience and enjoyment as we were constantly crowded.

Well, what else can be said about this sublime museum? Dali designed and set it all up and you can tell as much upon entering and the ensuing adventure within.I visited in May 2016 when the weather was beautiful. The train from Barcelona doesn’t take too long and is cheap enough. The train I got took around 2 hours and cost around 20 Euro’s return. The museum ticket was 14 Euro’s but this may have changed. The crowds were spread out so things didn’t get too claustrophobic and you can go off in pretty much any direction you wish. It’s definitely not your conventional journey inside a museum. My visit was made more fun after meeting a recently divorced American lady who sold everything up and decided to back pack around Europe. She has been a Dali fan since high school and this was one of her major stops along her travels. It was quite exciting to see someone from the other side of the world enjoying the museum like a child enjoys Christmas morning. The shop was nice but could have had a little more on offer. I did pick up a lovely poster for the collection but there wasn’t a lot on offer which was a shame. There are few museums around Europe that offer an experience of this kind. Now we are getting back to more regular travel, I would suggest you make The Dali Museum a high priority.

Difficult to put into words. If you like Dali’s work, given he designed this Museum - this is almost a religious experience. Be sure to visit the Dali Jewels exhibition just beyond the Museum gift shop, included with your ticket. Well worth the trip to the beautiful town Figueres.

The Dali museum was well worth the hassle of traveling to Figueres from Barcelona. It's a short walk (15 min) from the train station. We arrived late for our reservation due to us taking longer than expected on the train. They allowed us to come in only because there were open spaces in the next time slot but I highly recommend reserving tickets ahead of time. The museum is I think about 3 floors and ascends in a circular manner. It's extremely crowded in the afternoon so perhaps an early time slot is more comfortable. It was difficult to admire all the works due to the crowds but that was to be expected. If you're debating on coming here, take the plunge. I am a big fan of his artwork and to witness one of his greatest masterpieces, including his tomb was very gratifying.

Came on one of the busiest weekends mid August. The place was full of tourists, but even then we still had some luck with waiting outside the two nearby indoor parkings for around 10 minutes to be able to park. We walked up over to the ticket counter and bought the tickets to get access in the next 10 minutes. It was around 2:30pm when we got in. The place is a bit of a maze but it honestly fits with the vibe of Dali's art. Despite it being packed, the rest of the tourists were respectful of space and it was a generally nice visit. The art, of course, is amazing - a definite must visit.

A dream finally came true! Finally had the chance to visit Dalí Theatre. We stayed in Barcelona so we had to visit the Museum. I recommend you to get your tickets in advance online. I won’t describe my experience which was great 😊 just have a look at the photos and videos! outstanding

Antonis K — Google review

We were blown away by the intricate details and senses-evoking exhibits and experience that this museum had provided. As a Dali fan, it was a visual and thought-provoking feast! Even my companions of non-dali fans were easily converted into one after going through the works and installation.

Fiona L — Google review

Really interesting display. Interactive and fun. We tried not to get lost, many things to see. Quite sure we missed a few! Loved the pictures with Dali himself painting what we can actually see in the room.Only bémol would be the app. If you take a picture with your phone, the app starts from scratch when relaunched… it takes too long.Easy to park nearby - we added a nice walk downtown with small Christmas market.

Estelle C — Google review

An extraordinary place! I completely immersed myself in the atmosphere of Dali. Beautiful paintings, his life story, interesting installations, a museum of jewelry based on Dali’s sketches, do not leave anyone indifferent. Beautiful place! The city of Figueres itself is very nice and cozy. After visiting the museum, you can walk along the beautiful streets.

KSandv — Google review

A must visit! I was very delighted with what I saw. There is one drawback - you may not get to the museum immediately as soon as you arrive in Figueres, due to the huge influx of tourists to the museum, as well as others who want to visit it, so I recommend purchasing tickets online in advance. We bought tickets at about 11.30 and got to the museum only at 16.15.

An exceptional place to explore and learn more about the life of the famous artist Salvador Dalí and all that surrounded him. Beautiful building with surrealist decoration, as was his style. One of the things that impressed me the most was to see photos of the time when Dalí was painting and building this amazing place little by little. You can find unique works by him and other artists. A lot of creativity in one place! It takes about two hours to properly see the whole place. Totally recommended!

Located in Dali's hometown, it's an essential destination for any art lover. If you're an art enthusiast interested in Salvador Dali's famous works, a visit to the Dali Museum in Figueres is a must. The museum, dedicated to the surrealist artist, houses an extensive collection of his art, offering a unique insight into his creative mind. From paintings to sculptures, the exhibits are sure to captivate and inspire.

Amazing experience. If you are in the area this is a 'must do' even if you aren't into the work of Salvador Dali. This fascinating museum is all the more incredible given the fact that the great man conceived and created it himself during his lifetime.

Mark B — Google review

Very interesting to walk and look around the huge museum of quirky and fascinating artwork and experience. You don’t have to love art to have a great time and enjoy this museum. It’s a fun place to experiencewith friends and family and you can spend a lot of time just talking about it. Each artwork is so unique and eye catching - some are huge installations, some play with the architecture of the building, others require a second look to unravel the overall picture. There are so many hidden features in each area, depending on where you are looking from, something could look entirely different. It’s a museum unlike any other, where every wall and corner would have something special. Each artwork would have an artist statement and description, explaining the intention and meaning behind the piece, making it so much more interesting and easy to appreciate. Some art pieces are absolutely incredible in terms of their visual qualities like the choice of colour, the fine details, the overall composition. Included in the ticket, is a nearby building a few steps away from the museum, where there are artworks made of precious gems and jewels. Each piece was simply stunning - bedazzled in colourful gems, each work had a peculiar structure and form.

Wow, the museum was mind-blowing! I never really understood Salvador Dali before, but after visiting the museum, I totally get why he's so famous. It's not easy for everyone who is interested in art to appreciate it. Also, be careful with the lines at the museum, it's better to buy tickets in advance.

No one ever will concur Dali in this type of “crazy”! It’s absolutely amazing 😻When going there I would recommend:1) buy tickets upfront online2) If you are going with a baby, they will ask you to leave stroller at the entrance. So I would recommend to have a baby carrier with you

Jekaterina M — Google review

Perfect experience for all ages.Excellent collection of sculptures and paintings from one of the greatest artists of all times.Busy but you could enjoy the artwork. Not wheelchair accessible, as the building has many levels and staircases

Spyros T — Google review

My favorite painter. Amazing and so special experience. He was definitely something more than human, painter, artist.. Words are fading when I am trying to explain.. The day I will remember.. if you are staying for few hours here..it would be little. Here you can feel him and the way he was sharing his world with others and showing them what he wanted them to see. Such an exquisite soul. All recommends, unique experience.

I am glad that I had a chance to attend a true performance within this Museum. Walking through its labyrinth evokes so many emotions, thoughts and feelings. I think everyone should visit it at least once. You may like or dislike it. But it will touch your heart for sure.

Kirill M — Google review

We will forever remember the day we spent here as one of the best of our lives...exploring this place for hours, wandering the halls of an amazing architectural space seeing some of the best surrealist art that's ever been created and visiting the artist's tomb in his hometown. Truly ineffable. The jewels exhibit is somewhat hidden and is utterly stunning so we hope you can find it

Anna H — Google review

The place has a lot of work and showing Dalí’s artworks during different periods. But I was expecting more of his popular works.I didn’t like the amount of people in the museum at the same time. And museum doesn’t provide any audio guide.

Anastasia C — Google review

Took our breath away ! No-words !!!This place can not be compared to any other, absolute must-see !It’s approximately 1hr away from Barcelona by train - I recommend to purchase tickets online in advance. Also for the museum itself - purchase tickets online in advance, they are sold-out immediately and there’s no way you can get a ticket at the spot when you arrive.Lines move very fast and at the exact time that your ticket reads.I have never seen a place more beautiful than this ! Very impressive !

Ani G — Google review

Dali was pure genius and going to the museum was one of the highlights of my trip to Spain. Worth it to take a guide since they don't have audio guides. Do yourself a favor and go to the Dali museum.

Ravi V — Google review

Giving 2 stars for the art and architecture of the place, however, I cannot give more, because the museum was so overcrowded which led to terrible experience. The building itself has tight corridors and rooms, where we just ended up packed, queuing all the time with no chance of taking a moment to explore the art piece as you had to constantly step aside to let people walk through. The max capacity should be half of what they sell now, better to double the price ticket than to pay for tin of sardines experience.

Vít H — Google review

Must see if you spend time in Catalonia. Even if Dali and his art should not be your favorite this museum is worth a visit. Important to know: You buy tickets for a certain time (scheduled every 15 minutes) and should get in line exactly when this time shows up on a monitor located directly next to the entrance. Inside there are diffent rooms and a lot of steps to take to see all of them.
